...is there are no owner - contractor boundaries. You contractor (Dad) can wake you up in the morning, have you look something up at work randomly or make you do something (like call the soil engineer or collect quotes for gravel) a normal non-Dad contractor who do themselves.
But there are some advantages to the Dad/Contractor.
1. They tell you straight up if one of ideas will come back and bite you in the wallet later (flat roof or cheap but nice looking kitchen cabinets).
2. You get their discount on all the materials, not to mention their fee is usually waved.
3. They are willing to negotiate harder with sub-contractors.
Lastly, if you want something bad enough, a sad face and whinily saying, "Daddy, please" usually does the trick.
But here's the thing, you have to constantly remind yourself of all the good reasons to go with the Dad/Contractor because the calls asking you to be down at Lowe's or the job site happen almost everyday and without warning.
