Friday was our first day of true "building" at the house. The cement/foundation people came and worked their magic. I was there when they started pouring the foundation, which is no small feat. It involved backing a cement mixer and cement pump next to each other down a narrow alley which usually sees nothing larger than a mini-van.
For those of us not familiar with it, the cement pump is essentially a gigantic series of tubes which can be remotely extended (controlled by a cool belt mounted remote control) and used to pump cement into the molds from a far distance. This method saves time, labor and the possibility of dumping truckloads of cement in inopportune places. I generally think it is something like a gigantic cement brontosaurus that also spits cement. The cement work continues this week with framing to come soon!
