We hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable Thanksgiving weekend. We didn’t do much relaxing and only some of the weekend was enjoyable. While most of the country lounged around, ate leftover turkey and participated in some shopping madness, we moved. And moved. And Ate turkey. And Moved. And saw a movie (Fantastic Mr. Fox = 2 thumbs up). And Moved. And went to Apple Cup. And Moved. Actually, I got a killer sinus headache and didn’t participate in the last move.
It looks like we’re about done. Micah still has to pick up a few things at our apartment, give it one last sweep and drop off the keys. I wish we had the time to give the place one last hurrah. We had hoped to have a final party there but time got away from us. Oh well. We’ll just have to make sure we have a killer party at the new place.
We did manage to participate in a little Black Friday shopping. Of course, it wasn’t at Target or Best Buy. It was at Lowe’s. I have the feeling we’ll be shopping there a lot over the next few months. We picked up a ShopVac for $30. It was more than 75% off. I know, it’s terribly exciting and you are all really jealous.
For the time being, we are staying with my folks until the house is done. It’s actually not so bad (so far). It is a little strange to be back there. We feel obligated to let them know when we’re going out and when we’ll be back. The food is better, but we’ll both have to be careful about gaining weight while we’re there. My parents are old school Asian and have white rice with just about every meal.
We’ve also made a lot of progress in the house. The top floor is completely “floored.” The tile in both bathrooms should be done today and Augustin (tile master) has started on the 2nd floor shower. A toilet has been installed (the guys are tired of the Honey Bucket) and the washer, dryer and fridge arrived. We also have electricity in the house and some light fixtures up.
We also have been told we need to purchase molding for the floors and more tile (ARH!). We need tile around the front of the fireplaces. I guess it’s a new building code though I not sure why it’s necessary for gas fireplaces. I understand being worried about wood burning fireplaces getting too hot since you can’t control the temperature, but gas? We’re looking for tile while I double check the code.
We hope to have pictures of all the progress soon. We couldn’t muster the strength to get some between all the moving and car trips back and forth.
