The kitchen is coming along. It now looks like this
We still have a few things to do. Like paint or do something to the stools and fix the area around the dishwasher. Please excuse all the fingerprints.
If you remember, we were contemplating a red backsplash but eventually decided to go with white penny tile. I think we made the right choice. The red would have been too much with our cabinets. Instead, we used red accents in the kitchen.
I really love the tomato print dishcloth from Crate and Barrel. I wish I had bought a couple more in the same print. We have rest of the collection in mushroom, artichoke, lettuce and eggplant prints. We already had a pretty complete Le Creuset collection and the mixer in red.
We purchased the paper towel holder from Target for $15 and I think the striped bowl was part of a Christmas gift basket one year. Eventually I want to grow herbs in the window.
I love the sink and the faucet. It gives the kitchen a little industrial edge.
One of my favorite parts of the kitchen is having a pantry. We had one in our old apartment and I knew we’d have to have one in this house. It’s still not as big as I’d like, so we might have to start storing bulk items like paper towels in the garage at some point. I also really love the magnetic knife thing. It’s probably not the best if you have kids though.
Eventually we want to get a small stainless steel microwave and new toaster to match the kitchen. The white ones we have now work fine, so the replacements aren’t a huge priority.
We’re also working on getting an appliance garage (see image below) that would be installed in the space below the microwave. We’re after something like this. We saw them at Ikea but they weren’t deep enough.
Micah hates “stuff” on the counter and I hate pulling the toaster out of the drawer every morning to use it. I’ll probably put the (BEST EVER) rice cooker in a drawer or cabinet, but a few still look like this
and this (I told you I had the Le Cruset set)
Yes, we need to organize and vacuum. Every time I clean something, one of the guys fixes or adjusts something and it gets all dirty again. It drives me crazy!
We’re working on the organization though. We installed this rack, put all the large and long items in the cabinet above, and we’ve sorted out our dishes and serving platters.
The dish holders are from Ikea and we think we’re going to put some liner in the drawers. We can’t decide between cork (to match the floors) and red.
We need a few more finishing touches, but we think it looks good. Any other “details” you’d suggest we add? Maybe a red tray? Or red flowers? We’ve been thinking about moving the cookbooks where the mixer is and then the mixer to the left of the coffee maker (first picture). I have other ideas for the cookbooks too since I didn’t get the built in bookshelf I really wanted.
