Last weekend at fortytwentyfour we finally had the big housewarming party (number one of two). Overall it was a success. People seemed to be enjoying themselves and the house, and numerous plans were hatched for summer barbeques, bocce, and holiday parties.
As with any good housewarming, people drank, ate, and had a good time. The first bit of advice, passed on to us from our friend Catherine was that people will bring wine:
But they drink beer:
This strange housewarming phenomenon, coupled with an inconvenient sanitation workers strike have left our garage rather full of recycling and trash for the foreseeable future. Remember if you’re having a housewarming—don’t buy a case of wine! We ended up gaining almost a full case in addition to what we had left over. Oh well, this will last us for quite some time.
We also got lots of plants, which we love:
Our friend Darik managed to find two different types of rosemary; a plant which I am unfortunately allergic to (I’m suspicious of this coincidence of course, it seems like his demented sense of humor).
Another group of friends got us, among other things, a toothpick bird which was definitely a highlight of the party:
Our guest are generally friendly people, but sometimes people have a little trouble getting conversation started. Paul took care of this by providing us with a jug of Modesto’s finest Chablis—Carlo Rossi:
Needless to say, without fail everyone who came in immediately commented on how lucky we were to have our own jug. Many friends came and we were glad to see all of them however one group of friends went above and beyond, making their gifts truly special, I’ll talk more about that in a later post. I’m off to drink Rossi while smelling rosemary scented toothpicks.
