After clearing moving boxes out of our garage earlier this year, we finally got our car inside. One of the most exciting parts of finally having our own house with a garage was the prospect of actually getting our single car inside that.
Once we started parking the car inside, and our myriad house-related tasks mounted; we found ourselves in need of an organized garage with a work bench.
We looked for months at our local big box stores for a decent workbench. Something not too big or expensive, but still useful to our types of projects—nothing overly complicated or huge. After despairing for weeks, I finally went online and managed to find the perfect workbench from allworkbenches :
It’s made by Edsal and we opted for the 4 ft. wide model (a 6 ft. is also available).
Now, instead of hunting in boxes and through dark shelves, I can locate all of my tools easily and even have a little bit of space to work on. We added a couple of big heavy duty shelving units on each side to store leftover paint, bigger tools, our huge collection of random light bulbs and other supplies.
Last weekend, I did some more organizing, hung up a couple ladders, and tried to make more room in the garage.
As a couple who never owned a home before, we really didn’t have a huge collection of tools. My drill until last year was an old plug-in Makita that weighed approximately 20 pounds and would periodically send a huge shock up your arm—needless to say with a house where a hand drill is commonly used, I quickly replaced it after we moved in.
What are your favorite/most necessary tools that you couldn’t live without?
What about garage organization? What works, what doesn’t work?
