We hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving holiday. We had the pleasure of enjoying a 6-day holiday weekend! It snowed quite a bit on Monday, so most everything was closed on Tuesday. There was enough on the ground on Wednesday for Micah’s school to close and I’m home anyway because I telecommute on Wednesday. Of course we both had Thursday – Sunday off.
Izzy loved Thanksgiving. She had a special turkey dinner, all of her favorite humans were around and she got to play in the snow. She loves the snow despite the look on her face.
She’s also fascinated by the fact that it falls from the sky. She spent hours watching snow fall while we cooked.
I’d like to tell you we documented the prep and the final outcomes but that would be a lie. We didn’t think to take close up pictures of the end result until everyone had already dug in.
If you remember, we went with a Cuban themed Thanksgiving. I’d have to say it was one of our tastiest ones yet – right up there with the Hawaiian one. The big winners were the Fufu de Plantanos and the Tres Leches cake. I ended up modifying both dishes which may have lessened their authenticity but I think improved the flavor. I roasted a piece of pork belly, chopped it up and used it and the leftover fat in the Fufu instead or the bacon or ham mentioned in the recipe. I also lessened the amount of sugar in the Tres Leche cake. It was perfect!
I think the Tres Leches cake might be my go to cake. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
So now that Thanksgiving is over, we’re (or I’m) super excited about Christmas. I love Christmas and I’ve been super excited to decorate since we moved in last year. We started putting up a few festive decorations this week – here’s a little peak at parts of the family room.
These guys are on our entry table. I got them last year at Target last year for $1 each. I’m pretty sure I can replicate them fairly easily but you can’t beat $1 right?
We put up both Christmas trees last night. No, we didn’t go out and buy two trees, just one. I had this little guy from when I lived alone in DC. You can’t tell by the picture but all the decorations are silver/grey, black and white. The colors in the room are the same with the addition of red. I love the little holiday corner in the room and the new (used) bench we got over the weekend.
We’re still looking for a small box of holiday pictures and a few small decor items in the house. We busted out all out knitted holiday goodness and few other fun holiday pieces. I have a few things to craft this weekend too like a wreath, tree skirt, ornaments, a stocking for Izzy, a table runner and 2-3 gifts. So excited! We already have our first batch of holidays cards in the mail and hopefully the rest of them out by Monday. Christmas is in full swing at 4024!
Have you put up your holiday decor yet?

Aww Izzy is so stinkin cute! :)
I love those $1 trees...probably would cost more to make at that point!
i love that izzy planted herself by the door to watch the snow--so cute! the cuban thanksgiving looks like it was delicious! and yes, i'm totally ready to decorate for christmas as well (although i don't have nearly as much handmade stuff as you do).
We've started to decorate, but I plan on making it a holiday frenzy on Sat. So excited.
I love tres leches cake!! Can I get your recipe? and I love the new bench!
meditating on snow sounds like a really good idea. dogs are smart
I've put up most of our decorations except for the tree (we don't have one yet) and the lights. We're afraid the dogs will destroy both- so we're not sure if/when they will go up, but I desperately want them!
I love that you guys do themed Thanksgivings! And Izzy is just so cute! :)
@ MayLove: I occasionally catch Izzy nibbling on the tree. She has yet to attack the ornaments though. I'm wondering how she will react to the presents.
