Our guest rooms have been a mess for a long time. We have started working on them a few times in the last couple years but then get distracted by something else and abandoned them. We knew we were going to have some house guests this week so decided it was time to push through and get them as done as we could in a weekend. This is what they looked like the first time we tried to clean them up. And now they look like this:
Guest Room A:
We got the color scheme and a good shove in the right direction from inspiration boards Sugar of Modern Organic Living. We definitely want to pick up the wall hooks she mentions (or something similar), a clock and some white sheets. We also want to add a white box spring cover, new side tables and lamps, and a two sided glass frame for the leather cut out on the dresser above. The plan is to hang the cutout in the corner below.
We got the statue from some friends who recently moved onto a boat. The hanging monkeys were from my trip to Tanzania earlier this year. We love the colors and the overall feel of this room. There are some nice details that tie the space together which we hope to talk about when it’s finally done.
Guest Room B:
The inspiration for this room also came from Sugar and we this it’s more true to her vision than the other guest room. Pillows are on the To Make list, we have 2 of the 4 posters hung and we have a mirror to hang once we have the frame re-mounted to the mirror. The carved wooden table is currently in the other guest room but will hopefully move over in the near future.
One fun addition is the long belt hanging between the balcony doors and the closet. We picked it up in Guatemala for a few bucks. We knew it would look great in this room as soon as we saw it.
The blues are perfect and we think they compliment the rug we got on sale. This room isn’t done. We still need to find homes for all of this:
The scratch map will be hung behind the futon. I think the tinga tinga painting will go up in the room somewhere. The rest of the stuff is for donation or for hanging. I’m hoping to sort though the couch stuff this week before something else comes up. Our shopping list for this room includes something to mount the map onto, a coat hook, a small stand for the plant, curtains (we have them but need to hem them), a cover for the futon, a floor lamp and maybe a small ipod dock for the room.
The pictures don’t really do the room justice. It’s so warm and bright in this room. It’s easy to lose a couple of hours with a good book and a cup of coffee in here. When you need a little air, all you have to do is open to doors onto the mini balcony.
So what do you think? Are we on the right track? Would be up for crashing at our place next time you’re in town?
